To arrive at Westwind Club 1, fly into Nassau International Airport (NAS) and then take a Taxicab or, if you are so inclined, rent a car. The Club is about 5 miles from the airport.  Once at the resort, a car is not absolutely necessary, since jitneys (buses) run approximately every 20 minutes, passing in front of the resort and taxis are readily available.

Remember if renting a car, in the Bahamas you drive on the left side of the road, opposite that of the United States. If you have never driven on the left side of the road, learn the laws and learn the insurance requirements before renting a car. If You go into Downtown Nassau, take the jitney even if you've rented a car - as parking can be next to impossible at times. Allow yourself plenty of time to get acclimated, especially at roundabouts, entering parking lots, and pedestrian right of ways at crosswalks. Getting into an accident in a foreign country can present additional problems for you on your vacation.

Medical Facilities:

Medical care is generally good in Nassau and in Freeport, but may be limited in remote areas. Doctors and hospitals usually expect immediate cash payments for health services.

Travelers with rare blood types should know the names and locations of possible blood donors should the need arise.

Drug Penalties:

Citizens are subject to the laws of the country in which they are traveling. Criminal penalties for possession, use, or dealing in illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can expect lengthy jail sentences and fines.

Traffic Safety and Road Conditions:

Road conditions throughout Nassau and Freeport are generally good. Road travel in other parts of The Bahamas is limited. All drivers, especially those on mopeds, must remember to drive on the left side of the road. Pedestrians should also be aware when stepping off curbs that vehicular traffic comes from the right. Death and serious injuries have occurred when visitors have lapsed in adapting to unfamiliar rules of the road.
